COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus woman received the Sagamore of the Wabash, the state of Indiana’s highest honor.
Martha Myers was honored for her community service during a retirement ceremony at Columbus Regional Health last week.
During the ceremony, State Rep. Milo Smith presented Myers with a Sagamore of the Wabash and was also given a Key to the City of Columbus.
Myers worked as director of security and emergency preparedness at Columbus Regional Hospital for 39 years. She was instrumental in getting the hospital up and running following the 2008 flood.
She has served on the board of Bartholomew County Emergency Management as well as other various boards and commissions.
She served on Columbus City Council for 16 years and served on Leadership Bartholomew County and the Bartholomew County Republican Party.
Her son, Matt, is the current sheriff in Bartholomew County.
