COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Parks and Recreation Board voted on Thursday afternoon to proceed with the second phase of the site assessment at 1360 Jackson Street. The property, formerly home to a machinery-moving business, would be used by the parks department to store equipment.
Phase two will cost $8,775.00 and will consist of actions such as testing the property’s soil and underground storage tanks, as well as examining the building’s overall structure for asbestos presence, and testing surfaces for various contaminants.
Indianapolis-based Ark Engineering, the firm that conducted phase one of the assessment, will perform the additional work authorized by the vote. The results of this due-diligence testing will be a significant factor in the parks department’s decision whether to buy the property.
