NORTH VERNON, Ind.— A former Jennings County deputy clerk is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the county offices and into her personal account.
Cathy Jo Robertson, 40, of North Vernon, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of 37 counts of felony theft and 9 counts of felony forgery.
The investigation was launched in 2013 when an audit of the Jennings County Clerk and Auditor’s Offices determined funds were missing and unauthorized checks were issued when she worked for both offices.
Indiana State Police investigators say while employed as deputy clerk, Robertson diverted over $61,000 from the clerk’s office into her possession between January 2009 and April 2011.
She is also accused of forging checks in the amount of over $3,500 when she worked for the Jennings County Auditor’s Office in 2013.
Robertson is being held at the Jennings County Jail on a $25,000 bond. An initial court appearance has been set for Feb. 29.
