COLUMBUS, Ind. – The public is invited to attend an interactive workshop hosted by the Columbus Redevelopment Commission at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday April 5, 2017, at Columbus City Hall, 123 Washington St.
The city of Columbus is leading an initiative to improve the appearance, recreational function, environmental quality and economic benefit of the East Fork of the White River, between the 2nd and 3rd Street bridges. Hitchcock Design Group has been engaged to re-imagine the riverfront, and is leading a team that includes planning, design, engineering and market economic professionals. The concept will improve access to and along the river, and create dynamic public places consistent with the city’s rich cultural history. As an integral part of the project, the team will consider modifications of the low-head dam to improve river water quality, safety and navigation. The initial concept is expected in September and will be introduced to the community at a series of public workshops and meetings.
At the beginning of the interactive workshop, the project team will introduce the plan and discuss their preliminary interpretation of the existing riverfront conditions. Attendees will be asked to participate in several brainstorming exercises to help the team understand the riverfront today and ideas about the riverfront tomorrow.
Additional information is available at www.columbusriverfront.org. The website also includes an interactive survey, which will allow those who cannot participate in the workshop a chance to voice their opinions on re-imagining the riverfront.
