Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox said his department has received several calls from citizens who were victimized of the scam.
The IRS renewed a consumer alert for email schemes after seeing a 400 percent surge in incidents so far this year.The emails are designed to trick taxpayers into thinking these are official communications from the IRS or others in the tax industry, including tax software companies.
