COLUMBUS, Ind.—Investigators from the Columbus Fire Department (CFD) are looking into an early Friday morning blaze that destroyed a storage building on Union Street. CFD’s Captain Mike Wilson says firefighters were dispatched to the 900 block of Union Street, at 4:37 a.m., after a California Street neighbor reported a building fire near the alley.
When crews got there, the wood constructed storage shed behind the residence was fully involved. The flames were extinguished within minutes, but portions of the structure had already collapsed prior to firefighters arrival.
The home is a rental property owned by Phillip and Lisa Buster of Columbus. Wilson stated that the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Investigators learned that there was no electric utility service to the building. Damages are estimated at less than $1000.00.
The Columbus Fire Department has responded to three detached storage building fires in this area since August. FPD asks residents to make sure shed doors are secured and to report any suspicious activity to 911 dispatchers.
