COLUMBUS, Ind.–A mismatched car and license plate combination caught the attention of law enforcement late Monday evening. The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle was immediately stopped in the 400 block of North Gladstone Avenue.
Behind the wheel was Jeffrey Beckwith, 44, of Columbus. The officer says he instantly smelled cannabis inside the car and ordered Beckwith and his passenger, Dena McFarlin, 47, of Seymour, outside. A search of the vehicle allegedly yielded a cache of drugs including multiple types of pills, cannabis, paraphernalia, and approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine.
Beckwith and McFarlin were arrested and transported to Bartholomew County Jail. Beckwith will answer to possession charges of a legend drug, a controlled substance, paraphernalia, and marijuana, plus a traffic charge of being a habitual violator. McFarlin was booked for possession of marijuana, methamphetamine, and paraphernalia.
