COLUMBUS, Ind.–A Bartholomew County woman was lucky to wind up in a safe, if not odd, location after she passed out behind the wheel of her vehicle early Saturday morning. Lt. Matt Harris, public information officer with the Columbus Police Department, says that Joanna Purtlebaugh, 30, of Columbus, was found by a customer stopped and apparently asleep in the driver’s seat of her car in the drive-thru of the White Castle on North National Road.
Officers were soon dispatched and woke her upon arrival. Suspecting she may be under the influence, the patrolman administered several field sobriety tests which she allegedly failed. CPD says she subsequently provided a breath sample of .153 percent, therefore securing a stop at Columbus Regional Health for a blood draw before her transport to the Bartholomew County Jail.
Purtlebaugh faces a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
