NORTH VERNON, Ind. — Work is expected to begin on a bike path in North Vernon this week.
The Muscatatuck Trail will begin and end at the North Vernon City Park and the Muscatatuck County Park.
Crews will begin clearing the path this week before construction on the asphalt path begins in April. The $1.2 million project also includes parking lot improvements at to Muscatatuck County Park.
The contract completion date is Sept. 30.
“The trail travels through beautiful scenery and brings us close to nature without venturing too far from downtown,” Mayor Mike Ochs said.
“I grew up near the trail site and remember walking down the railroad tracks, listening to the birds sing, seeing a lot of wildlife,” Ochs said. “This is going to be a good place for getting away, gathering thoughts, relaxing and reflecting.”
